Red Line Coffee Crawl

On October 5, we’ll be cruising north on the Red Line from Lakeview to Uptown to Edgewater. This is the third themed crawl that we’re offering and boy, is it packed with some heavy hitters. Like the other L-themed crawls, this is designed to be both fun and educational. Overall, you’ll be imbibing three flights of three coffees each plus the chance to ask that one question you’ve always wanted to know about coffee. Listen to the coffee professional talk about their approach to coffee, pick up a few brew tips, and discuss taste with likeminded coffee lovers. Check out photos here!

On October 18, we will be visiting & learning at Intelligentsia Coffee, Ch’ava Cafe, and the Metropolis Roasting Works (instead of the cafe). We’ll be taking a tour of the facility and conduct a short cupping at the end.

  • Intelligentsia Coffee (Flagship): In the specialty coffee world, this company needs no introduction. The Chicago-based roaster opened its first cafe in Lakeview and has only continued to improve its coffee quality year after year. Here, we’ll taste food-grade, organic acids to help us identify them in the coffee tasting.
  • Ch’ava Cafe: This cafe is nestled in the neighborhood of Uptown and we almost don’t want to share it with you, it’s that good. The co-owners separately manage their coffee and seasonal food menus with a humbling dedication. Engage them in conversation about coffee or food and you’ll be blown away by the depth of their knowledge.
  • Metropolis Cafe: Another roaster associated with Chicago, Metropolis began in 2003 as a father-son duo and has grown to include a cafe, separate roasting works facility, and numerous wholesale accounts in & beyond the city. Here, we’ll be experimenting with brew methods- see how one coffee’s taste can vary between three different brew methods.
